Dear Juno or Any Other Teenager in a Similar Situation,
I was surprised with your decision to carry the baby and give it up for adoption. It doesn't seem like you hear about that type of decision from a teenager happen very much. Most of the time teenagers decide to get an abortion and hide the fact that they got pregnant on accident. You chose to do a really great thing by giving your baby to a mother that cannot have her own baby. I really respect your decision.Although, I think the best decision for any pregnant teenager, especially under 18 years old, is to get an abortion and just move on in life. Unless they have enough help and are stable enough to provide enough care to raise a child, which I don't think any teenager around 18 years old is even mature enough to do. But an even better decision would be to not have sex because of boredom with a close friend or to at the very least, use a condom. In your case, if you got an abortion you wouldn't have had to deal with getting laughed at and made fun of for being pregnant. I understand you tried to go to an abortion clinic but you just couldn't do it. So if it would have been hard for you to live with if you got an abortion, then your decision to give it away to a caring and healthy mother is very respectable. You became mature enough to handle carrying your baby to term and dealing with school and your life besides being pregnant. I don't believe many teenagers in your situation would be able to do that. Most would drop out of school and become a stressed and depressed teenage mother.I believe in abortion because there's no stopping unplanned teenage pregnancies. And I don't think any teenager will want to get or get someone pregnant just for fun and then know they can get an abortion. So providing a sufficient solution to the accident needs to be there. Teenagers who become pregnant and have big goals for themselves in their future need the option to an abortion. Not all choose the option but I believe it's most important to have abortion available. If I got a teenage girl pregnant, I would encourage her to get an abortion or at least give it up for adoption like Juno and not keep the baby.
